Project Overview
MU Group was engaged to complete Level 2 bridge inspections for the twenty-six identified bridges in accordance with Transport for NSW requirements and procedure (RTA Bridge Inspection Procedure Manual, 2007). This involved MU Group completing condition ratings and identifying the required maintenance actions for each bridge.
Level 3 Inspections & Assessment
Following our completion of Level 2 inspections, we identified that one structure required a Level 3 inspection, which was subsequently conducted by MU Group.
From our inspections, we also determined that certain structures would require major maintenance activities. These activities include bearing replacements, repainting of steelwork (including the removal of current lead-based paints where necessary), concrete crack repair, mortar pad repairs, replacement of corroded bolts and nuts, bridge approach pavement relaying, as well as general deck repairs and cleanouts.
On-site application of innovative bridge inspection technologies
For the bridge structures spanning dams, spillways and Intakes, our team utilised Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Drones) to critically and effectively inspect bridge elements that were otherwise unable to be safely and closely viewed. The use of drones eliminated the need for the use of expensive specialised access equipment.
