MU Group provided pivotal constructability leadership to the TfNSW client team. The project entailed an 8.5km bypass of the Princes Highway at Moruya, traversing complex brownfield areas with new interchanges at each end with a central greenfield alignment. The route presented significant constructability challenges, including extensive property acquisitions, environmental constraints, major floodplain crossings, integration with the new Moruya Hospital and TAFE NSW precinct, and active community engagement.

Our teams technical oversight enabled the early identification of preferred road alignments and intersection solutions grounded in practical constructability. He led comprehensive constructability reviews of all proposed options, with particular attention to the floodplain section, which required consideration of more than 2km of bridge structures and a major crossing over the Moruya River (spanning 250m) that needed to accommodate existing seaplane operations. James’s expertise guided the design towards solutions that minimised construction impacts and respected operational constraints, such as aviation requirements on the river.

Throughout project development, MU Group contributed expert input to optimise earthworks, structural elements, and bridge design, ensuring that solutions were both technically robust and buildable. MU Group facilitated collaboration with external design PSCs, cost estimators, and construction advisors to accurately inform constructability allowances and refine cost estimates and the role extended to leading value management and option selection workshops, always with a strong focus on buildability, cost-effectiveness, and risk mitigation.
